DIY: Cheap and Easy Watch Stand

Finally, something other than food! (But then again, who doesn't like food...)

I've always liked watches, but they just never fit me! Last winter, when I finally learned how to resize my own watches (possible demonstration in the future?), I realized that there was hope for me and my tiny wrists. Thus, my love for watches flourished.

As my small collection continues to grow, I definitely don't want them scattered around my cluttered desk or stuffed in some box. And who wants to pay $10-$20 for a stand?.. Well for those who are just as cheap and equally eager to make things as I am, here's an easy DIY for you!

DIY Watch Stand (EASY)

What you'll need:
  • CD container
  • Paper towel roll
  • Felt
  • Scizors
  • Fast-drying glue (hot glue gun or E6000 recommended)
*Be cautious of glue fumes. Glue in ventilated area.

Fill the bottom of your CD container with wax or resin to give your base some body and weight. I recommend resin because it isn't as messy and will last longer.

Find the middle of the paper towel roll and cut a hole just big enough to fit the center of the CD container. Cut a little at a time to make sure the hole isn't too big.

Most CD containers come with a plastic divider; trace and cut out a piece of felt. Cut it a little larger than the disk to ensure you can cover all gaps.

*If you do not have a divider to trace, use a CD or DVD

Glue the plastic divider onto your resin, followed by the felt piece on top. You can see that cutting your felt larger covers the visible resin/wax.

*Thick card stock paper or cardboard can replace plastic divider if needed.

Before covering your pieces in felt, stuff the paper towel roll. Scrap fabric or paper will work just fine. You want the paper towel roll to be sturdy enough to withstand the weight of your watches/accessories. Tape off the open ends to make gluing the end circles of felt easier. I recommend cutting the hole into the felt after covering the paper towel roll.

Cover the rest of pieces. Have all your seams at the back of your stand.

Put glue on the top of the CD container and insert it into the hole and hold firmly for a couple of minutes. Glue around the outside to make sure it is secure. Allow your stand to stand upright for 10-20 minutes to completely set.

At this point, your easy DIY watch stand is complete! But of course, you can always take it to the next level...

Decorating is the best part! Let your creativity run wild. I had some decorative ribbon lying around from a previous DIY and decided to use the rest of it for some simple embellishments. It really does make a difference!

And NOW you're done!

Since the materials used in this DIY are merely scraps found around the house, it won't always be very stable, especially with heavy watches and jewelry. So I recommend trying to balance the weight on both sides.
This DIY was really cheap and easy, and as my collection grows, perhaps I'll make another DIY that accommodates to more! Until then, here are a few of my favorite watches at the moment:

I really had a lot of fun making this and I hope to soon expand on this as well as expand my collection. Here's to more future DIYs!

Cataloging my Addiction: Fall/Winter Pickups (pt. 2)

I've previously featured my clothing items in my last post,"Fall/Winter Pickups (pt. 1)", so if you haven't seen it already, go check it out! (And I apologize in advance for not taking better care of my shoes!)

Black satchel: Forever21

During the holidays, Forever21 was having an amazing 50% off all bags and shoes. I've been looking for a good bag for a while; something with structure and a sleek appearance. The shoulder strap is a good length and is adjustable and the bag itself is just big enough to hold everything I need (i.e. wallet, keys, water, lip balm, etc.).

Wedged platform booties: Charlotte Russe
Now, I love Charlotte Russe shoes, but I actually somewhat regret buying these... It was during their BOGO for $5 on Black Friday, and when I couldn't find the other pair that I wanted, I bought these anyways. Shame on me for impulse shopping...

Black "Desert Cool Booties": Forever21
Me and a friend went down to the Strip to look around the Forever21 at Fashion Show Mall. I already had my eyes on the chocolate colored pair of these shoes online, but of course they were out of my size in-store...but luckily, I ran into these black ones - the LAST size 6 they had, and to my surprise, all shoes in the store were 50% and I snagged these for 13 bucks!

Chocolate "Desert Cool Booties": Forever21
After getting the black ones, I knew I just had to have the chocolate ones too. I need more brown shoes anyways, all my shoes are black! In fact, I hadn't even made it home before I ordered these online at, of all places, Taco Bell... but sadly, the 50% off shoes deal wasn't online.

Black wedged booties: Target
It was my mom who actually got me these shoes at Target for only $10! I actually wear these quite often. They're comfortable enough to wear to school on a regular basis without killing my feet, so that's a plus.

Tan wedged booties: Target
Just like the previous pair, my mom also got these for me at Target, and with the original price being $30 each, $20 total for both pairs is practically a steal.

Happy 19th Birthday Tiffanie!

Oh what a day it was. Today (or technically yesterday), was my best friend's 19th birthday. So if you haven't already, go wish Tiffanie a happy (belated) birthday!

Tiffanie and I go WAY back. All the way back to fourth grade! That's over 9 years of friendship right there, and honestly, I don't know what I'd do without her. So here's to you, Tiff, and I hope that you had fun today (:

We started the day at around 3:30pm at the park and soon after, we headed down to China Town for some Korean BBQ at Honey Pig, which was pretty damn good if you ask me.

Here's a couple shots from Honey Pig (taken on my Instax Mini8) - me and the birthday girl with another three of our close friends (from left to right), Kevin, Kyle, and (we call him) Q.

Our original plan was to sing our hearts out at Karaoke Q, but sadly that plan fell through, but that's okay because there's no better replacement than laughing our asses off over boba milk tea at Fresh Cup Cafe and just enjoying each other's company.

It was still only around 8:00 by the time we left, so after making a quick stop at CVS, we were on our way to see Kyle's new house. Kyle's place has always been a place to just hang out in the past, so this brought back a lot of good memories from way back when. It wasn't long after that a few more of our good buddies came knocking.

Things are never boring whenever Vince, Kevin, Kela, and Zijie are involved, and it just so happens that these crazy guys are awesome at free-styling so make sure to check Tiffanie's YouTube channel later on for a video here (check out her amazing videos too!). And thanks again to Zijie for pitying me for my lack of red envelopes for Chinese New Year LOL.

And of course, we've got the best picture of the night - the birthday girl with some of the best, and most hilarious friends you could ever ask for.

Outfit of the Day: 2.2.14

It was actually pretty cold today. Last week it was in the seventies and now it's in the fifties! Seriously the weather here is completely bipolar. Well at least I dressed appropriately for these chilly days. Honestly I'm kind of glad that this week is a little colder because nothing's better than layering in winter days in my opinion, and I really wanted more chances to wear this jacket again.

  • Jacket: Forever21
  • Sweater: Forever21 (Sale)
  • Jeans: Pacsun
  • Shoes: Target (Sale)
  • Watch: Target

Outfit of the Day: 1.28.2014

Here's to another end of a long day of school.
I figure, if I'm not going to enjoy sitting through two grueling science lectures and boring prerequisites, I might as well not enjoy it while looking presentable.

  • Cardigan: Target
  • Watch: Target
  • Crop top: Forever21
  • High-waisted shorts: Forever21
